My Mama’s been making this healthy chili for as long as I can remember, and it is the BEST.
It has always been our family tradition to have it on Halloween, but I like to make it WAY more often than that.
I live in Texas now, and people here seem to think that it’s blasphemy to put beans in chili. But this is the kind of chili I grew up with, so *I* say ’If there ain’t beans, than it ain’t right!’
*insert fart joke*
My Mama's Famous Chili
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small green pepper, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 14.5 oz cans stewed tomatoes
- 15 oz can tomato sauce
- 2 16 oz cans dark red kidney beans
- 2 t chili powder
- 1 1/2 t salt
- 1/8 t paprika
Brown a pound of ground beef along with a small chopped green pepper, and small chopped onion. Drain if necessary
Pour beef mixture into a 3qt saucepan and add in two cans of stewed tomatoes, one (15oz) can of tomato sauce, about 2t of chili powder (more if you like it hot), 1 1/2t salt, and an 1/8t of paprika
Add in two drained cans of dark red kidney beans
Simmer for 20-30 minutes (this can also be made ahead in your slow cooker)
