Here are some great healthy Halloween food ideas to help balance all the sugar!

Halloween is FULL of sugar. After all, candy is the main focus of the holiday as far as the kids are concerned.

That being the case, I always try to balance out all that sugar by sneaking in some fun Halloween-themed foods that are on the healthier side.

This Spider Web Taco Salad is one of my favorite dinners to make during the week of Halloween, and it is so easy!

Spider Web Taco Salad

Ingredients

  • 2-3 hearts of romaine, shredded
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2-3 roma tomatoes, chopped
  • shredded Mexican cheese
  • sliced black olives
  • Wholly Guacamole
  • sour cream
  • salsa (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef, then add taco seasoning packet and prepare as directed

  2. Layer chopped lettuce on a large platter

  3. Top with seasoned ground beef, then cheese, tomato, and olives

  4. Spread guacamole over top 

  5. Put sour cream in a sandwich bag, cut a small opening in one of the bottom corners, and pipe sour cream onto salad in the shape of a spider web. You can also add a plastic spider to the center, but make sure it does not end up on anyone's plate!

  6. Serve with salsa, if desired

On Halloween night itself I make my Mama’s Famous Chili. <3

It is the perfect thing to put together before trick-or-treating because it can just simmer on the stove (or in the crockpot if no one will be home), and it’s ready when you are.

There’s nothing like coming home to a warm bowl of delicious chili after trick-or-treating. It has definitely become one of my family’s favorite traditions.

My Mama's Famous Chili

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small green pepper, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 14.5 oz cans stewed tomatoes
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 16 oz cans dark red kidney beans
  • 2 t chili powder
  • 1 1/2 t salt
  • 1/8 t paprika

Instructions

  1. Brown a pound of ground beef along with a small chopped green pepper, and small chopped onion. Drain if necessary

  2. Pour beef mixture into a 3qt saucepan and add in two cans of stewed tomatoes, one (15oz) can of tomato sauce, about 2t of chili powder (more if you like it hot), 1 1/2t salt, and an 1/8t of paprika

  3. Stir well

  4. Add in two drained cans of dark red kidney beans

  5. Simmer for 20-30 minutes (this can also be made ahead in your slow cooker)
