Beginning Meditation for Moms

I can hear you from here: ‘Yeah, suuuuuuuure……give me ONE more thing to do.’ *eye roll*

I know, I know. You’re already overwhelmed by the 34,987 bs things you have to do each day. WHY in the world would you want to take on another ‘task’?! #bishyoucray

Because it will make the burden of all the other tasks seem lighter, that’s why. You will be able to approach your day with confidence and a semblance of peace, instead of feeling frazzled and stressed.

How amazing does that sound?? And I’m totally not kidding.

Meditation for moms can be a really powerful tool. And it really doesn’t take that much time or effort.

Meditation is one of those things that you don’t really realize how badly you need it until you try it.

I will admit….I was one of those eye rolling ‘WTF good will that do’ people for a very long time. But then when I finally gave it a try I was quite surprised at the results.

I really did feel calmer. I really did feel more focused. And I really did feel more connected with my God and myself.

Of course you do not have to make meditation spiritual, per se. It can be extremely beneficial just to quiet the mind for a bit. Regardless of how you use it, you will definitely reap some benefits.

So what the heck is meditation anyway?

If you’re not that ‘woo woo’ you may have a preconceived notion that it’s sitting with your hands on your knees with your fingers in the ‘okey dokey’ position and chanting or some shit.

I guess it can be like that, but that’s not what it looks like in my world.

For me it’s just opening up one of my meditation apps, quieting my world with my earbuds, and listening to the guidance of the recording.

Many times they will just tell you to practice your breathing, or try to keep your mind clear, or if it’s a spiritual meditation to use the time to connect with God.

It can look many different ways, but the goal is always the same: to center yourself on the inside in preparation for what you may face on the outside.

And that’s a beautiful thing to do for yourself. <3

So now the burning question….

How in the fark am I supposed to fit this into my already crazy-busy life?

Well the good news is that you can start with only 10-15 minutes a day. And if that’s all you can ever make time for then that’s okay too!

I used to set my alarm about 15 minutes early so I could wake up slowly, checking social media, email, etc from the comfort of my bed. Now I wake up 15 minutes early to meditate.

As you can imagine, starting the day with more of Aunt Susan’s drama on Facebook, or a barrage of stupid chain emails, has a completely different effect on your day than using that time to focus and center yourself does.

It truly makes all the difference.

I encourage you to begin your meditation practice with one of these apps. They are user friendly, and have awesome guided meditations on all sorts of topics….

Insight Timer (a wide variety of all different types of meditation)

Abide (a Christian based meditation app)

Enjoy your practice!
